Invisalign for Teenagers

Being a teenager is tough. You’re busy with classes, practice, and maybe even work. You’re also trying to have a social life and make new friends. The last thing you want to worry about is your braces. Are they hurting? Do you have food stuck in them? Are they making you look like a little kid?

Many teens these days are opting for a simpler treatment called Invisalign. You may be familiar with this Canton orthodontics treatment for adults, and it’s very similar for teens but with a few changes.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a name brand of clear aligners. They work slowly over time to reposition your teeth the same way metal braces do, but because they are made of clear plastic, nobody else will notice that you are wearing them. They are often the top choice for active and social individuals.

How Does It Work?

You can expect the treatment process to last from 9-15 months and use 18-30 aligners. Teenagers tend to take longer for treatment than adults and use more aligners due to their high levels of activity and the increased risk of damage or loss.

During this time, you’ll visit our Canton orthodontics office every six weeks for a check-up. Dr. Nia will assess your progress and hand you the next package of aligners. This package will contain the next three sets of aligners. You will be instructed to move to the next set of aligners every two weeks.

Is It Right for Me?

Invisalign Teen is ideal for those who have minor orthodontic issues and do not require extensive treatment. It’s frequently requested by those with active and social lifestyles. Without the metal in your mouth, you don’t have to worry about having anything break off during sports practice or change up how you play an instrument. You also don’t have to worry about looking childish with your friends or ruining your yearbook photos with a metal mouth.

How Is It Different from Invisalign for Adults?

Although the treatment process works the same for both adults and teens, there are a couple of differences for teenagers who use Invisalign. The first difference is one we’ve already mentioned. Your treatment plan may be a little longer, and you’ll likely have a few more aligners than an adult would. This is because teens tend to be more active than adults and may break or lose an aligner more easily.

The second difference is that Invisalign Teen comes with a blue dot on the back of each aligner. When the aligner is worn for the proper amount of time, the blue dot will turn either white or clear to indicate you’re using it correctly.
